TOURIST/ VISITOR VISA for Australian and New Zealand passport holders.

Australian and New Zealand tourists are exempted from visa requirements

The decision, aimed to attract foreign tourists and facilitate travel conditions, was made at the meeting of the Cabinet on 4th of January, 2023 and will be effective until the end of 2025.

By exempting the citizens of the above 34 countries from visa requirements, it will give a clear impetus to the development of the tourism sector, the recovery of the economy, and the continuation of the dialogue to facilitate the travel conditions of the Mongolian nationals.

With the approval of this decision, the number of visa-free travel countries to Mongolia will be increased by thirty-four to sixty-one.

  1. Passport with a validity date at least six months beyond the end of the applicant’s intended period of stay in Mongolia, with at least 2 blank visa pages
  2. Visa Application Form with one photo /passport size/ Visa application form
  3. Proof of travel /Flight itinerary/
  4. Hotel booking
  5. Visa fee of
    • Single entry 30 day visa – AUD 80.00 (express – AUD 152.00)
  6. Fees must be paid by money order or Bank cheques made payable to “The Embassy of Mongolia” /No personal cheques, please/
  7. Prepaid, self-addressed return envelope. We recommend using a certified mail with tracking number with signature on delivery.

  3. Visa for next destination /Russia or China/
  4. Proof of travel /Train or flight tickets in and out of Mongolia/
  5. Detailed travel program provided by the Tour agency
  6. Visa for next destination, copy of onward ticket,
  7. Visa fee: Fees must be paid by money order or Bank cheques made payable to “The Embassy of Mongolia”
    • Single entry Transit visa – $40.00 (express – $72.00)

SHORT TERM BUSINESS VISA OR LONG TERM VISA

  • Valid passport /minimum validity of 6 months at the time of entering Mongolia/
  • Visa Application Form with one photo /passport size/ Official short term visa (Business, Official, Volunteer) | Long term visa (Multiple, Employment, Study, Research, Trainee)
  • Cover letter from employer in Australia, if student Proof of study in Australia
  • Invitation letter from the host in Mongolia
  • Official letter of invitation with reference number from the Ministry of Foreign affairs (for short term stay) or the Immigration Authority (for long term stay or multiple entry visa) – lodged by the hosting/partner, event/conference organizing entity in Mongolia.

Types of Business visa:

    • 30 day Single-entry Business visa – this visa type allows the traveler to stay for up to 30 days in Mongolia and it is valid for three months (90 days) from the date of issue.
    • 30 day Double-entry Business – this visa type allows the traveler to enter twice Mongolia and stay for up to 30 days per entry and it is valid for three months (90 days) from the date of issue.
    • 30 day Multiple entry (6 months) Business visa – this visa type allows the traveler to visit Mongolia for unlimited number of times within 6 months and stay for up to 30 days per each entry.
    • 30 day Multiple entry (12 months) Business visa – this visa type allows the traveler to visit Mongolia for unlimited number of times within 12 months and stay for up to 30 days per each entry.

 

Work visas

Work visas are issued to foreigners, who are planning to stay for more than 90 days in Mongolia through a long-term working contract/agreement with Mongolian entity.

– Both Long-stay or Work visas or dependent family visas are issued by arrangement with the Office for Immigration, Naturalisation and Foreign Citizens (OINFC) in Ulaanbaatar. The business counterpart of the application in Mongolia should arrange and assist with contacting the OINFC. Once arrangements are made, the OINFC will notify the Embassy who will issue a visa of the appropriate category. Applicants for a long-stay or work visas must submit a letter from the OINFC, a letter of invitation from their business counterpart in Mongolia or proof of their need for such a visa along with the other required documents for a visa.

 

NOTE : Foreign national staying in Mongolia for more than 30 days is required to be registered at local “Office of Immigration, Naturalization and Foreign Citizens“

PASSPORT VALIDITY WILL BE SCRUTINIZED

According to the order 227, issued by the Head of the Foreigners and Citizenship Office of Mongolia, a foreign national with passport which valid for no less than 12 months can get permission for stay or approval for entry visa on private or business purposes, while the one with passport valid for no less than 6 months, may get extended his or her permit for continued stay on private and business purposes since June 20, 2008.
